With support from the California Arts Council, Positive Action Community Theatre (PACT) will provide improvisational theatre workshops to teens and adults with autism, which will help them master social and communication skills that will empower them to reach their personal and professional goals. Through the camaraderie of theatre, they will enjoy friendship and community. This fills a great need in their lives. They will also have fun! We will employ and professionally train people with autism, as leaders of our improv theatre workshops, and as ensemble actors and assistant directors in our theatre troupe. In addition to developing viable careers in the arts, they will learn job skills that will help them succeed in any career. The troupe’s current project is to create a musical through improvisational theatre.
Each year we provide:
16-week workshop series of ‘Improv to a Job’ workshops
16-week program where the group creates a musical from improv, then rehearses and performs it for our community
weekly virtual theatre workshops
weekly virtual theatre troupe meetings
employment and training for about 5 young adults with autism
