Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Aurora Theatre Company will grow our Student Matinee Program in the 2022/2023 Season partnering with Berkeley High School and additionally, Laney College and Future Histories Lab, UCBerkeley to bring quality performing arts to Berkeley students and engaging participants with in-classroom theatre workshops.

Organization Summary

Aurora produces an eclectic 5-play season of over 200 performances each year, which is Aurora’s primary programming. The plays range from brand-new work to reimagined classics to contemporary pieces – each chosen with the hopes that it will challenge our audiences to engage in discussion and reflect on cultural values.
Aurora also invests in new work through the Originate + Generate new works initiative. O+G offers personalized support to selected Bay Area artists for the development of new performances. Support includes a commission, developmental support from Aurora’s artistic team, and the use of Aurora’s resources for workshops and rehearsals. The goal for O+G work is to debut on the Aurora stage.
Finally, Aurora invests in our local community through our Community Partners Program. Partnering organizations may receive free or heavily discounted performances tickets for their members and affiliates. Aurora currently partners with Berkeley High School.
