With support from the California Arts Council, Piedmont Choirs, DBA Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir, will provide 320 K-12 youth with weekly, comprehensive music education and choral performance programming in school and community settings in Alameda County, focused upon expanding access and community connection.
Singing is a deeply personal way to make music. There are no keys to tap or string to pluck — you have to find your way with your ear and your mind. There is text to understand and communicate to your audience. Your very breath makes the sound. We foster the skills and confidence needed for young people to raise their voices proudly and use them to connect with others and our community. Our singers are brought together by their common love of music, from all over the Bay Area, and form a community of young artists.
Founded in 1982, Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir (PEBCC) is an internationally renowned performance organization as well as a locally beloved after school choral training program for young people ages 4 to 18. PEBCC provides exceptional choral training to nearly 350 children from kindergarten through high school. Children progress through eight levels of our 16 choirs and school programming is available for grades 1-5.
Our program emphasizes performance excellence and healthy development of body and mind. Children learn the fundamentals of music theory as young as age six, meeting for two hours a week, and progress through our curriculum to our top performing choirs in middle school and high school. These choirs require four to five hours of rehearsal during the week and a mandatory two-week camp and tour over the summer. Singers at all levels participate in diverse choral practices, learning new music from commissioned composers, and community building instruction and performance opportunities.
