With support from the California Arts Council, SURFING MADONNA OCEANS PROJECT will produce two juried art exhibitions in 2023: “Save the Ocean” and “Ocean/Earth/Air”. Visual artists and poets from Southern California will receive financial awards and cultivate their artistic reputations. Reception music provided by the high school band “The Preservationists”.
Our core programs are “Artist Awards of Excellence”, Juried Art Shows with cash awards, community arts programming and creating opportunities for artists to showcase their work with public interaction.
Our “Artist Awards of Excellence” program, gives cash awards and creates opportunities for artists to show and share their work with the public. This has included book readings, art shows, music concerts, financial support for arts organizations and financial support for artists to produce creative works.
Our juried show in 2021 “Save the Ocean” had 60+ artists and gave out 9 awards for $1125.00. We plan to have that show annually at the Escondido Municipal Gallery. Our next juried show in 2022 “Inspirations” is at La Playa Gallery in La Jolla and offers $650.00 in cash awards.
“Ocean-Earth-Air” art and poetry exhibit at the Poway Center of Performing Arts of 2023 will be an ongoing program showcasing over 100 artists and poets from California for Earth Day weekend and Poetry month with $2600 in cash awards.
Our artist financed projects have included a commissioned “Save the Ocean” mosaic that was produced by local artists and permanently installed at the Encinitas Lifeguard station, officially known as the Marine Safety Center.
As part of our arts programming we produced and continue to distribute 3,200 Water Safety coloring books for kids, and have planned programming that includes talks and sketchbook giveaways to local youth groups once the Covid restrictions are lifted.
