Organization Summary

Our programs and services include:
Business Training & Professional Development
Each year, CCI produces an average of 20—30 free and low-cost workshops attended by artists and arts workers across all disciplines and at all career stages. Topics are continually evolving so as to be relevant and responsive to our network. In addition, our long-running, signature professional development series, “Business of Art,” is always in high demand and is accompanied by CCI’s eponymous textbook (third edition released January 2021).

Strategic Investment Programs
To address the need for funding and financial support systems for the creative workforce, CCI manages regional and statewide re-grant programs including CALI Catalyst, Creative Industries Incentive Fund, Investing in Artists, Quick Grants, and Zoo Labs: FUND, among other initiatives. CCI has a national reach, too, with the SCI Artist-Innovator Fund, which supports artist-entrepreneurs with SCI (Spinal Cord Injury), and AmbitioUS, a time-limited initiative to support alternative economic systems that beget diverse cultural sovereignty and artists’ financial self-determination.

Knowledge Building & Networking
Developing new knowledge, networks, and tools for individuals in the arts are CCI mainstays that are realized via our online resources such as an events calendar, consultant/coach directory, and curated content (e.g., “Emergency Resources for Artists & Freelancers”), cross-promotion of opportunities and resources through our e-newsletters and social media, and production of networking events and multi-scale convenings.

Research & Advocacy
CCI has a track record of issuing critical research on the creative workforce with reports such as “Arts Workers in California” (2021) and “Creativity Connects” (2016) that highlight who are art workers and the conditions they work within. In late 2021, CCI launched Sol Center for Liberated Work, which is dedicated to labor, economic, and social policy gains for arts workers and all those who share their challenging conditions.
