With support from the California Arts Council, GREEN COMMUNICATIONS INITIATIVE will:
1. Pay a percentage of Executive Director salary.
2. Pay a percentage of Assistant Director, Programs and Operations salary.
PHASE I: 2013-2020.
Formed in 12/2013 as Green Communications Initiative, our first art exhibition, about the effects of plastic pollution, was mounted in 2014. Quarterly Mar Vista Music and Art Walks (MVMAW) were held from 2015 – 3/2020. GCI public art in solar powered bus shelters and trash compactors contributes a sense of community identity while motivating multi-modal transport. Other programs included our Community Art Gallery (2017-2018) and weekly artist support ART JAMS + Open Mics (2017-2020).
PHASE II: PANDEMIC 2020-2022.
Our goals were twofold:
1. Implement Cultural Equity & Inclusion Policy:
*Weekly stART HERE arts + social justice livestreams artist interviews. Artists shared how self-determined identity informed their art.
2. Funding & Support For Artists:
*Artist Microgrants. Funding for temporary hire of 60 artists and musicians.
*Art Marketplace. Monthly rotating virtual exhibition and marketplace to support artists and craft vendors.
*Public Art. Part of the Downtown Mar Vista Beautification Project to implement improvements along Venice Blvd, installed 5 new murals and streetlight art medallions.
PHASE III: 2023-PRESENT.
Name change & expanded mission. In the aftermath of the pandemic and murder of George Floyd, we became TRANSFORMATION ARTS. Programs focus on public art in underserved communities:
