With support from the California Arts Council, Dancessence, Inc. will present “Awe and Wonder”, four culturally diverse choreographers creating and performing dances inspired by conversations with four scientists followed by post-performance discussions. Free performances will be offered in underserved communities in Los Angeles.
Donna Sternberg & Dancers (DS&D) presents compelling live performances, educational and community-based programs to audiences that are diverse in age, culture, economic class, ethnic background and gender. Through our life-long learning program, we seek to educate and involve audiences by presenting lecture/demonstrations, panel discussions with scientists and artists, teaching classes and workshops, and conducting post-performance discussions. Our community-based programs offer community members the opportunity to join in the creative process by helping to create and participate in performances with company members. DS&D curates, produces and presents programs that feature diverse dance forms such as contemporary, jazz, hip hop, Bharatanatyam, folklorico and tap, and dance cultures including Mexican, Indian, African-American, Middle Eastern, Filipino, Korean, Maori and Peruvian. The company performs in site-specific locations such as parks, galleries, empty lots, libraries and the beach as well as in traditional theaters.
