In its 14-year history, Independent Opera Company (IOC) has presented more than thirty full opera productions as well as concerts and community outreach performances. One of the missions of IOC is to perform Russian, Ukrainian and other East-European operas that are underrepresented on the LA County cultural scene. Two other key aspects of IOC’s mission are to perform and to create public awareness of lesser-known works, and also well-known works with an innovative approach. Some of the  latest IOC productions, Stone Guest by Dargomyzhskiy,  Daphne by R. Strauss, Fair at the Sorotchintsi by M Mussorgsky all of which were a Los Angeles premiere of these beautiful works
As well as “Die Kluge by C. Orff performed in 2024, 2025 and 2026 are all good example of introducing rarely performed works as well as Eastern European music.  IOC is committed to performing operas in English as well as in multiple languages, including Italian, French, Spanish, Ukrainian and Russian. Operas not sung in English include the projection of supertitles, so that the audience is able to follow along with all nuances of the text. IOC strives for the highest quality artistry in all performances, while maintaining an innovative approach. Some other examples of Eastern European operas performed by IOC are 2022 performances of Little Red Riding Hood and Puss in Boots by Cesar Qui , as well as the Ukrainian opera Cossack Beyond the Danube by Hullak-Artemovsky, which was a West Coast premiere of this work. Some recent highlights also include The Dialogues of Carmelites by F. Poulenc and Anna Bolena by G. Donizetti.
