Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Chapter 510 will offer a 10-week summer digital storytelling workshop for 10 Oakland high schoolers, entitled “Oakland Belonging: A Youth-Led Oral History of Swan’s Market.” Students will interview historical and cultural leaders and produce 5-15 minute audio stories, connecting history, place, and identity.

Organization Summary

Chapter 510 offers writing, podcasting, and bookmaking workshops to Oakland youth, led by Teaching Artists in affirming and inspiring spaces within a supportive community of volunteers and artists. We also publish our students’ words in beautifully bound and illustrated books and host events to collaborate with and elevate Oakland’s diverse community of artists and creatives.
