With support from the California Arts Council, HEADLANDS CENTER FOR THE ARTS will continue its vital work developing and presenting a suite of programs that provide direct support for artists and offer the public key insights into the creative process and role of art and artists in society.
Incorporated in 1982 and located in the coastal wilderness of the Marin Headlands just minutes from San Francisco, Headlands deeply supports local, national, and international artists as they develop new work. Best known for its Artist in Residence (AIR) program, Headlands has supported contemporary, cutting-edge artists working at the forefront of their fields for nearly 40 years. Across its Artist and Public Programs, Headlands provides studio space and direct support for up to 100 artists each year. With more than 1,600 Alumni, the organization’s impact can be tracked not only locally but across the globe. Headlands’ creative community and Bay Area location provide the foundation for significant public programming, enhancing the cultural fabric of society by supporting public access and community engagement grounded in the creative process. Annually, Headlands engages approximately 13,000 on-site visitors and 90,000 unique online visitors and offers as many as 30 public programs.
