Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Fugitivity Labs will sustain the organization’s programs, services, and operations through financial precarity and vulnerability caused by the inequitable economic devastations of COVID-19. CAC funds will be used to support staff, artists, and general operating expenses.

Organization Summary

As an organization, Fugitivity Labs:
• Creates, produces, and tour works of experimental dance-based performance that center the experiences, realities, fantasies, and dreams of QTBIPOC artists
• Develops and presents free community based workshops by and for QTBIPOC artists with an emphasis on liberatory somatics, cultivating queer culture, and artistic experimentation
• Hosts and participates in seminars, panels, and conferences to elevate QTBIPOC voices, advocate for QTBIPOC needs, and advance equity in the field
• Offers artistic and professional development by and for QTBIPOC artists, each one teach one
• Engages in community organizing in the broader institutional landscape of arts and culture to dismantle systems of oppression, build the power of the undercommons, and shift the larger landscape of institutionalized power
• Forms and participates in collectives (temporary and longer-term) to support initiatives, efforts, struggles, and projects outside the realm of organizational bureaucracy ranging from DIY art projects to accountability processes
• Equity consulting to organizations seeking to shift power, be less oppressive, develop new strategies for action, and generally make the field of arts and culture more equitable
