Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Wyld Womxn will be able to continue serving our community of intergenerational womxn and non-binary folx in the Coachella Valley and beyond. The grant will help keep our programming accessible and further cultivate our mission by providing essential multidisciplinary arts and wellness programming.

Organization Summary

The past 7 years, we have run accessible monthly multi-disciplinary arts and wellness programming and events for womxn and non-binary folx, including a Community Garden space, Feminist Book Club, Anti-Racist critical reading group, Spoke Kin Bike cycle, Art classes, Creative Writing Group, Feminist Supper Club, Hiking & Nature Club, All Things Queer, and Sisters in Studio.

Wyld Womxn curates feminist public community art programs from our artist talks, public workshops, panels, performances, community care full moon gatherings, and art happenings.

Since COVID is still a potential threat for our immune compromised members, we take great caution to make sure we protect them in hybrid or in person settings. Although based in Coachella Valley, we serve communities in the hi-desert and surrounding areas.

Services:

Created and started our BIPOC micro-grant initiative that helped 8 womxn and non-binary artists in the Coachella Valley and hi-desert area who were deeply impacted by COVID-19.
Started our mutual aid fund to share funds with our members who have been financially impacted by our current crisis.
Provided anti-racist resources and spaces for our members, community, and leadership team.
Raised funds for our local Black community that directly went to the Desert Highland Community.
Each year, we continue to provide feminist leadership mentorship for our members serving on the leadership team.
We continue to use a meaningful hybrid model of our in-person events, programming, offerings and workshops. We would like to focus more on in-person events and programming in 2023-2024.
Putting money back into our community by paying our womxn and non-binary artists, facilitators, our collaborators in the community spaces, and special guests for programming with Wyld Womxn!
Wyld Womxn was invited to facilitate the first Queer Salon and host free programming for Joshua Tree Music Festival attendees in the Hi-Desert.
