With support from the California Arts Council, CIRCLE CITY CHORALE will continue to offer singing performances throughout the pandemic and beyond. CAC grant funds will be used to pay rent, venue rentals, storage fees, independent contractors, sheet music, equipment rentals, supplies, website, multimedia performance recordings and printing/advertising costs.
Founded in 2010 and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) on January 20, 2011, Circle City Chorale is a community choir, normally made up of up to 45 adult singers and 30 children, from Corona, in California’s Inland Empire area. We sing a variety of types of music, ranging from folk tunes and spirituals to Broadway showtunes to more challenging “serious” music. In addition to presenting concerts in early summer and in December, we perform free of charge for special charitable events such as the Empty Bowls fundraiser for Corona’s Settlement House, Corona Regional Medical Center, the Corona 4th of July Parade and Corona City Council’s annual State-of-the-City meeting to name just a few. Since the pandemic, we have been performing and raising funds online. The Circle City Children’s Choir (C4) is Circle City Chorale’s music education program and was founded in 2014. Growing seasonally since its inception, and currently split into three performance groups by age and ability, it has become a vital part of the Chorale’s mission of outreach to the community. Through weekly rehearsals and various performance opportunities, children’s choir participants gain an appreciation of music while learning basic music theory, the fundamentals of singing in a choir, proper vocal techniques, performance skills, and simple choreography. This constructive program also teaches the value of persistence, self-discipline, and personal achievement, and empowers children to strive for personal growth through its many solo opportunities.
