With support from the California Arts Council, Bay Area Children’s Theatre will continue to provide arts access to tens of thousands of students from low- to moderate-income communities through our 2020-2021 Student Matinee program. Grant funding will enable school groups from underserved communities an opportunity to attend a live theatre performance as part of an enriching field trip by providing subsidized and free tickets. BACT believes every child deserves the right to experience the arts.
BACT provides the following core programs:
MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS (“Onstage”): Introduce children to the joy of theatre and literature by bringing great children’s books to life onstage through productions designed especially for young audiences featuring adult actors.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH: BACT offers several outreach programs to provide arts access to as diverse and inclusive a community as possible, including Student Matinees, arts in schools programs, and touring productions.
MUSICAL THEATRE EDUCATION (“Academy”): After-school classes and camps, a number of which are offered through civic partnerships, give children ages 4 and up opportunities to learn the art and craft of theatre, gain performance skills, build self-confidence, and shine as part of a team.
THEATRE FOR THE VERY YOUNG (“TVY”): Productions that provide multi-sensory story experiences designed specifically for early development needs of children ages 6 months to 3 years.
