Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Quinteto Latino will host its second biannual Seminario in 2020, bringing together early career professional Latinx classical musicians from throughout California to train in chamber music performance and to address diversity and equity issues in classical music.

Organization Summary

Quinteto Latino is a San Francisco Bay Area wind quintet with a mission to build community through Latino Classical Music: performance and advocacy. This unique ensemble performs works exclusively by Latino composers. Through our varied and innovative work in venues both traditional and nontraditional, we strive to make this music available, relevant, and inspiring to audiences across cultural, class, and ethnic lines. We are committed assembly and teaching artists, having worked with students of all ages and ability levels in both English and Spanish. In addition, we use our organization as a tool to advocate on behalf of Latino composers and classical musicians through mentoring, commissioning, hiring and being a voice, both regionally and nationally, for issues around diversity and classical music.
