With support from the California Arts Council, the Institute for Arts and Culture will send artists to teach Chinese dance to elementary students at ER Taylor, a Title I school with 77.6% of enrolled students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The Institute began this program almost six years ago, and due to its success with students, parents, and our partnering school, we hope to continue our teaching program and increase the number of students served through the use of CAC funds.
The Institute offers a wide variety of year-round performing and visual arts classes for students as young as three to adult learners.
Our Young Artists afterschool and summer enrichment programs offer comprehensive visual and performing arts classes year round. Beginning students are introduced to diverse cultural art forms through engaging, age-appropriate lessons, while intermediate and advanced students refine their technical competence in studio classes.
Through our non-profit school, San Francisco High School of the Arts, the Institute offers students grades 6-12 a rigorous college-preparatory academic program in combination with pre-professional training in the arts.
The faculty and students of the Institute perform at many community events during the school year, venues include SFUSD schools, the California Academy of Sciences, the Asian Arts Museum, and the Columbus Day parade. The Institute is also a Lead Agency in SFUSD’s ExCEL After School Program. Our teaching artists also offer regular classes at SFUSD schools through our “Artists in Schools” program.
