With support from the California Arts Council, The Arts at CIIS will send its Curator and Assistant Curator to a 4-day Video Storytelling workshop hosted by the Berkeley Advanced Media Institute at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism. This experiential skill-building workshop will give The Arts at CIIS the capacity to incorporate more time-based digital media into its website and social media—essential for re-envisioning its marketing program to foster the visibility of diverse artists.
Each year, The Arts at CIIS hosts 10-12 exhibitions with attendant programming. Its 2,000-square foot dedicated gallery space hosts multidisciplinary exhibitions by emerging and established artists from the Bay Area, greater California, and beyond. Situated in the heart of San Francisco’s diverse South of Market district, this ground-floor space is open to the public 7 days per week, providing an accessible cultural anchor in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. In addition, The Arts at CIIS hosts smaller-scale exhibitions throughout the building, primarily featuring 2D works. In association with each exhibition are featured artists and cultural workers for talks, performances, screenings, panel discussions, and community activities. All exhibitions and events are entirely free to the public. The gallery also hosts community services aligned with its social justice values, such as a free biweekly acupuncture clinic that serves low-income and homeless residents of the neighborhood.
