With support from the California Arts Council, ARHOOLIE FOUNDATION will create a four-part podcast series, “The Blues Came to Oakland”, focused on Oakland’s vibrant African-American music scene in the 1940s and ’50s, and exploring the life springing from those roots today, as a new generation of artists claim and grow Oakland’s musical heritage. The story will be told on The Arhoolie Foundation’s podcast, as well as on local radio partners, a public listening event, and a robust webpage.
