With support from the California Arts Council, MANILATOWN HERITAGE FOUNDATION will present “Ullalim”, a live music, dance and spoken word performance inspired by the true stories of the San Francisco Filipino-American community during the 1920’s-1940s and patterned in the style of the Philippine Epic Poem “di Ullalim”. Related community workshops, open rehearsals and a live premiere performance will take place at the International Hotel Manilatown Center in San Francisco.
The Manilatown Heritage Foundation’s core program is to maintain the legacies of San Francisco’s historic Manilatown neighborhood and the 1977 International Hotel Eviction by maintaining the International Hotel Manilatown Center as both a memorial to these legacies and as a multipurpose community gathering space for creative expressions relevant to today’s community.
