With support from the California Arts Council, Library Association of La Jolla will provide at-risk teens from Logan Heights and surrounding neighborhoods with 35 weeks of interdisciplinary arts programming. The After School Arts Program will be held at the Athenaeum Arts Center, and will include lectures on different types of art, hands-on creation of works in a variety of media, as well as Portfolio Reviews, and information for students with an interest in pursuing art as a career.
The Athenaeum Music and Arts Library is the oldest arts organization in San Diego serving as a cultural hub since 1899. It is the only organization in San Diego that commissions, presents, and collects in the areas of visual art and music. The Athenaeum offers hands-on art, as well as lecture-style education programs, on site as well as in schools. We offer an exhibition program that highlights San Diego artists as well as a robust program of Jazz, Chamber, Acoustic, and New Music year round. With a robust collection of books on art and music, we are internationally known for our collection of artists’ books. In 2016, the Athenaeum opened the Athenaeum Art Center (AAC) in Logan Heights to expand the audiences we serve with fully outfitted print and ceramics studios as well as exhibition spaces, and events for students and the community.
