Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Success Center San Francisco (AKA Success Centers) will conduct three cycles of our Arts on the Outs Program, which will support formerly or currently incarcerated participants by using the arts as a vehicle to teach life skills, job readiness training, and wellness principles, helping them safely reintegrate into the community.

Organization Summary

Breaking Barriers provides outreach and service connection at 14 public housing sites in San Francisco. The program aims to reach out to residents, build relationships and engage in services.

Success Centers manages Career Centers in Western Addition, San Mateo and in Oakland. We serve low-income marginalized communities, provide comprehensive career assessment, training and more. Career Centers place youth and re-entry clients in transitional employment to gain skills and experience.

The Early Morning Study Academy, delivered in partnership with John Muir Charter School, provides High School completion or GED preparation to students not on track to graduate from High School, young adults (TAY) who have dropped out from school, and other adults enrolled in one of our job training programs.

Green Construction Training is a 24-week pre-apprenticeship training program for union apprenticeship positions. Success Centers provides education, construction skills training, project-based learning, case management, job development, follow-up supports, and program management activities. Upon completion of the training, participants are placed at job sites for apprenticeship.

Our Equity for Industry focuses on supporting job-seekers for business licenses in the emerging cannabis industry.

The Leadership and Community Development provides monthly workshops for leaders of emerging African American-led CBOs on the mechanics of successful leadership. The training is provided to 12-15 leaders annually. We also convene the SOMA Community Collaborative and administer arts and community grant programs for SOMA residents.

Technology Access: We provide Basic Computer Literacy training, laptop computers, Wi-Fi hotspots, funded by Microsoft Philanthropies and the SFMOHCD.

The ARTS Program provides arts activities in detention in San Francisco and provides tech and media arts instruction.

Credible Messengers provides daily onsite services in juvenile detention in San Francisco by our staff experienced in the justice system who serve as mentors for detained youth.
