With CAC support, the Village Project will organize
and produce our 14th annual San Francisco Kwanzaa
celebration in late December 2019. This 7-day event
will take place in at least 15 different community
venues and will serve an estimated 1500 African
Americans, including at least 500 low-income public
housing residents. Awarded funds will support the
participating artists’ fees, staff and production costs,
and the events’ publicity expenses.
The Village Project’s year-round programs include: 1) Youth academic programs, (afterschool & 8 week summer); 2) Mardi Gras–San Francisco Style – Fat Tuesday annual celebration; 3) A Senior Moment, an October prom & blues concert for those 50 and older; 3) Grillin In the`Mo is an outdoors blues concert and community Barbeque; 4) the annual week-long Kwanzaa celebration promotes unity and community and reinforces the common identity and the cultural bonds between all people of African descent.
