Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, SACRAMENTO GUITAR SOCIETY will establish free and accessible group guitar lessons for children ages 8 to 18 at ten (10) public libraries in various regions of Sacramento County with the highest poverty ratings. Classes will be taught by a professional guitar teacher from our community with input and song selections by the students. Classes will be held every other week throughout the year, with practical exceptions around the holidays.

Organization Summary

• Produce high quality community concerts with international touring artists
• Host monthly meeting for members and the community at E. Claire Studios for the Performing Arts (a.k.a. “The Clara”)
• Fund & Host the Sacramento Guitar Orchestra, an open community orchestra to all ages
• Collect donated guitars and refurbish as needed for use by students enrolled in our year-round guitar instruction program
• Host annual Young Artists Showcase, featuring up-and-coming young students in our community who have excelled in the art of guitar
• Visit senior centers to bring beautiful classical guitar concerts closer to the elderly
