Project Description

The LACER Afterschool Programs, with the support of the California Arts Council, offers The Rock Band Project. A 9-month music workshop providing students at LeConte MS free classes in music theory, instrumental instruction, and how to build a show, rehearse and perform. The project culminates in a series of 45 min shows at the school for over 1K of their peers! The curriculum fosters proficiency in music, collaboration, youth development, builds language skills, and self esteem in a safe space.

Organization Summary

The goal of L.A.C.E.R.’s ARTStars is to provide an arts experience for every student at every school that L.A.C.E.R. serves. By doing so, L.A.C.E.R. has transformed the culture in both the after school and day school programs by once again making the arts an integral part of the school experience. Although the dosage of arts involvement will vary from student to student, with some attending after school arts classes 3-5 days/week and others will experience a live arts assembly or performance during the school day, every student will be exposed to the arts and benefit from the encounter.
