With support from the California Arts Council, PBS SoCal will train 25 Transitional Aged Foster Youth in media arts through a Media Training Weekend, with eight youth going on to participate in a four-month Video Diaries Project. These components form the Foster Youth Voices Program, which introduces current/ recent foster youth to filmmaking, imparts skills to benefit them in the future, and empowers them to discover new ways to share their stories and take control of their own narratives.
Public Media promotes a love of learning and helps communities, so that those living in them may have a fulfilling life in a strong, inclusive, informed society. At PBS SoCal, our high quality content is at the core of everything we do. And we amplify its power through engagement in the community, as well as partnerships with significant educational, arts and cultural institutions across the region.
Over the years, PBS SoCal has developed artistic, cultural and educational community engagement initiatives – thanks in large part to the partnerships we’ve developed. Cultural institutions like the Music Center, the Natural History Museum, LA Opera, The Getty Museum, the Los Angeles LGBT Center have partnered with us to expand the availability of cultural experiences in our region. PBS SoCal works with diverse organizations on topics of regional importance to spark dialogue, cultivate collaboration and continue to work together to find new ways to serve our community.
