Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council The Freedom Bound Center DBA Sol Collective will introduce a multi-platform youth-led media arts campaign with the mission of introducing and promoting cultural self care practices to young people in black and brown communities.

Organization Summary

Currently the Sol Collective serves 2,000 Sacramento residents monthly, offering community inspired programming including The Sacramento Activist School, Sacramento Young Feminists Alliance, Sol Kids Day, Danza Azteca (Aztec Dancing), free community yoga, The Curanderismo Series (traditional natural healing), youth open mics and musical showcases, collaborative art and music sessions open to the public, and additional monthly events, performances, lectures, film screenings, and forums.

In addition to Sacramento, Sol Collective serves a growing national and international audience of over 20,000 subscribers via Sol Life Media. Launched at 2014’s South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, Sol Life is an innovative, collaborative media label for artists and educators. Through videos, podcasts, and live streams, Sol Collective garners an average of 150,000 unique views online per month.
