With support from the California Arts Council, CENTER STAGE OPERA will provide most of registration fee for Co-Artistic Directors Dylan and Shira Thomas to the national conference of Opera America, to be held in San Francisco June 13-16, 2019. We have just been accepted as a member of Opera America, and are eager to benefit from all of the resources that the organization will offer at the conference. Center Stage Opera will pay for all other expenses associated with attendance at the conference.
We bring professional, fully-staged opera & Broadway to the San Fernando Valley; create a milieu in which every participant is equally valued and respected; serve the entire community, reaching out to young people, seniors, and the economically disadvantaged. Main-stage productions feature The Valley Opera and Performing Arts Orchestra. Through The Opera Tree, our community service and education arm, we provide low-cost or free tickets to the economically disadvantaged, reaching out to LAUSD schools, Community Colleges, and non-profit groups. At our main-stage performances, we collect needed items for local charities. We donate items for fundraisers to, and perform free benefit concerts for, community service organizations. And we bring quality, low-cost programs to seniors groups and retirement communities. With education programs like “Fun With Opera” and assembly-length adaptations of classic operas, we reach a growing number of young people from elementary school through college.
