With support from the California Arts Council, SAN DIEGO MUSEUM OF ART will be able to send Stacey Loomis, Director of Development and Membership, to the Art Museum Development Association conference taking place in San Francisco June 3-6, 2019. Attending the ADMA conference provides vital training and networking which will better equip Ms. Loomis to direct her team to successfully secure the funds necessary to support the Museum’s mission.
Serving approximately 400,000 visitors each year, SDMA serves as a major resource for collecting, preserving, and presenting culturally significant works of art from around the globe. Located in the heart of Balboa Park, SDMA’s encyclopedic collection features more than 22,000 objects – dating from 3000 BC to the present day – including Spanish and Italian old masters, South Asian paintings such as the Edwin Binney 3rd Collection, East Asian art, American art, and Modern and Contemporary paintings and sculptures. SDMA is committed to providing meaningful shared experiences for diverse audiences by connecting learners from all ages and backgrounds with art. Through its educational initiative launched in 2022 called Art+Empathy, SDMA employs an extensive year-round schedule of programs such as music and dance performances, student and family art-making workshops, and community festivals. SDMA also offers Virtual SDMA, featuring a variety of online experiences, including the SDMA App, the Masterpiece Minute podcast, and virtual performances in collaboration with other local arts institutions. At SDMA, exhibition text is always in English and Spanish, and free docent tours are offered to the public in five languages.
