Project Description
With support from the California Arts Council, OPERA SLO will enable Brian Alhadeff, General Manager and Artistic Director, to attend the 2019 Annual Opera America conference, gaining valuable insights into national trends, best practices, and current directions in the field, face-to-face interaction with colleagues from across the US that foster collaborative partnerships and co-productions, and resources and learning that benefits the organization and promotes a culture of learning.
Organization Summary
OperaSLO has developed the “Citywide Arts Collaboration” model for producing its annual Grand Opera production. OperaSLO is one of only four “grand opera” producing companies in the state of California (the other three being LA Opera, San Diego Opera and San Francisco Opera). Our season includes the Holiday Nutcracker collaboration with Civic Ballet San Luis Obispo and State Street Ballet Santa Barbara for audiences over 8,000; Outdoor Summer Pops Concert at the Vina Robles Amphitheatre with internaationnally acclaimed soloists, orchestra and chorus; Children’s concert at the Amphitheatre featuring ballet, opera arias and audience sing-along with over 3,400 middle school students from throughout SLO County; Classical Musical produced annually that reaches further into the community; and our newest Community Outreach Initiative — Mobile Opera House (MOH)- a mobile mini-opera/theatre travelling by truck to reach those in communities with little opportunity to experience opera.
