With support from the California Arts Council, Santa Clarita Community College District will work with four Title I elementary schools in the Santa Clarita Valley for a dance residency with Do U Dance. Students will learn and be able to identify the structure of a dance, understand that dance is a form of non-verbal communication that can carry personal meaning, and use choreographic devices to create a dance that is visually interesting.
The District provides students in grades K-12 with opportunities to be actively engaged in dance, theatre, music and visual arts, through a variety of avenues, including a dedicated K-12 Arts Education Outreach Program. This Program engages K-12 students in the Santa Clarita Valley in an effort to educate, entertain and enrich the community. In 2010, the District and three of its partners were accepted to the Kennedy Center’s Partners in Education Program which helps facilitate professional development. The K-12 Arts Education Outreach Program offers workshops & residencies in numerous genres and disciplines. Our 25 teaching artists offer more than 40 different workshop opportunities. There were also over 25 assembly performances available for school performances in addition to in-school artistic workshops and residencies.
