Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, KCRW will develop and implement a program expansion plan for SoundsLA, our multiplatform storytelling project that inspires creative expression and community engagement through the sounds of Los Angeles and the stories they evoke. Since launching in 2015, SoundsLA producers and the LA community created a collection hundreds of audio postcards that use a sound as a linchpin for personal storytelling about people and places in and around Los Angeles.

Organization Summary

A community service of Santa Monica College and flagship NPR affiliate, KCRW produces public service journalism, in-studio music performances and in-depth interviews with newsmakers and culture creators. KCRW’s goals are to (1) deliver striking, human and credible programming, (2) stay relevant in the face of changing media behaviors, and (3) build a robust and engaged membership community that we are responsible and responsive to. To meet these goals, KCRW creates and delivers an eclectic mix of news, music, and arts programming that represents the spirit and voices of Los Angeles. We share and amplify our programming to the world through radio, digital, and live events. We seek to inform, enlighten, and delight; and by doing so connect our community of listeners, who expect the highest standards of credibility and creativity. KCRW’s unparalleled ability to engage culturally curious, young, and diverse audiences has made the station what it is today—the future of public media.
