With support from the California Arts Council, The Singing Bois will continue the work of creating space and artistic opportunity for Trans, Gender Non-Conforming/Non-Binary, Masculine of Center and artists of color.
As a racially blended group (black, white, South Asian, and biracial), The Singing Bois’ performances prioritize music created by people of color and present feminist, anti-racist, and queer versions of masculinity through reinterpretations of R&B, soul, rock, and Latin music. These performances take a playful approach to sexuality and invite all participants to join in the fun of swooning over dreamy harmonies and slick dance sequences, celebrating the many forms desire can take. This work illuminates the variety of partners that masculine-of-center individuals may choose, as well as non-normative relationships such as polyamory. Overall these performances probe the boundaries of masculinity and illuminate how individuals assigned female at birth contribute to its construction and deconstruction. As a relatively new artistic group, The Singing Bois are in high demand and have performed extensively throughout the Bay Area.
