ARTS FACILITATOR (Wild Art Program) for RuckusRoots Inc

Position Summary:

The Arts Facilitator will collaborate with RR team to lead a Wild Art program to 2nd – 6th grade classes at Glenfeliz Boulevard Elementary School. Teaching Artist will be responsible for project ideation, project planning/preparation, activity guidance, and class supervision/management while successfully collaborating with RuckusRoots program coordinator and school staff. Able to work within an existing but flexible program framework and bring in their own ideas and creative expertise, our ideal Arts Facilitator should be able to contribute to and help design the curriculum and culminating art project(s). Please have a passion for artmaking with children, and a deep love of the environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Facilitate and lead all in-person sessions on campus at Glenfeliz Boulevard Elementary School (NOTE: LiveScan fingerprinting clearance is required for this teaching position.)
Bring a flexible, joyful, patient and inspiring presence to students
Collaborate with RR programs team on curriculum
Prepare materials for each workshop session as needed
Use a wide variety of techniques to engage, inspire and interact with young students
Other duties, as necessary

Must-haves:

At least 2 years of experience elementary art basics (drawing, painting, color theory, collage, etc.,) preferably in a classroom or school setting
Knowledge of and experience in workshop planning/curriculum design
Strong facilitation, instructional and classroom management skills
Strong interpersonal, communication and time management skills
Interest in sustainability and creative reuse (ideally, this is already a part of your artistic practice)
Access to a personal computer, reliable internet and related software applications (Google Drive, Zoom, etc)
Reliable transportation to/from school location
Willingness to submit to background check and/or LiveScan

Classification:

This position is for an independent contractor paid on a day-rate basis (DOE).

Expected Hours/Timeframe:

This Wild Art program is scheduled to run Feburary 29th to May 30th, 2024. Classes will be held on Thursdays 1:30pm – 5:00pm, so please note: you MUST have Thursday afternoon availability. Teaching time will be roughly 5 hrs week (including setup/cleanup time on site). Will most likely require an additional 1-2 hrs of planning/prep time per week, billable at an hourly rate.
