Full-Time/ Non-Exempt

As the national repository of Japanese American history, the Japanese American National Museum (“JANM”) creates groundbreaking historical and arts exhibitions, educational public programs, award-winning documentaries, and innovative curriculum that illuminate the stories and the rich cultural heritage of people of Japanese ancestry in the United States. An Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and AAM accredited, JANM is recognized as one of the nation’s premier cultural museums. Located in the historic Little Tokyo/Arts district in downtown Los Angeles, conveniently located across from the Little Tokyo stop for the Metro light rail line A & E station.

The Development Associate position supports the Development office by providing administrative support to the development team members. The Development Associate also responds to constituent inquiries via phone, email, and in-person. Development Associate will also assist with development events, including the annual benefit, and provide event support to ensure the ability to meet annual fundraising goals and serve the organization’s mission.  

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous work with museums, non-profit, academic or cultural organizations; experience in a fundraising environment preferred. Minimum two years’ experience assisting with event logistics, including planning and execution. Willingness to learn and apply new skills. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines. Excellent organizational skills and be detail-oriented. At least two years of experience working with databases and data entry. 

Requires occasional evening and weekend hours to support museum functions and events. Experienced with MS Office, Google Calendar, Gmail, and CRM /Altru preferred. Professional phone manner is essential. Demonstrated commitment and flexibility in order to ensure a high level of quality service. Knowledge of Japanese surnames, and familiarity of Japanese American/Asian American history and culture a plus. Criminal background and credit check is required. Requires up to date COVID-19 vaccination with bivalent booster.
