The Opportunity:

MOCA is seeking a Director of Individual Giving to manage and grow the Individual Giving program. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, the Director of Individual Giving will serve as the leader for the individual giving program including membership, leadership giving, major giving, planned giving, and will serve as a top fundraiser with a personal portfolio of high-level donors and prospects. The Director of Individual Giving will join a newly structured and energized Advancement Department and manage a team of four. They will help to rebuild the fundraising program and partner in planning the early phase of a proposed anniversary campaign.

Essential Functions:

• Manage growth of the Museum membership annual giving program ($30-$750) with the Membership Manager, including analysis of new acquisition, retention, and upgrades across the program; development and execution of solicitation strategies including onsite, direct mail, and online; and collaboration across departments to create innovative and successful messaging and member conversion.
• Plan and execute, with a Patrons Groups Assistant, a growing and prioritized Leadership Circle annual giving program for supporters at $1,500, $4,500, and $10,000 levels including a strategic and thoughtful program of events, activities, and stewardship to encourage interest and growth in the program.
• Lead the annual fund campaign, with the Membership Manager, consisting of a year- end solicitation effort and expanding the campaign in future years to becoming a year- round program with distinct messaging and volunteer engagement to develop it as an important institutional fundraising effort.
• Manage a major gift officer(s) and support them by steering to institutional priority proposals while creatively developing opportunities that may also address core operational funding needs. Track major gifts activity and coordinate with Individual Giving Assistant to create proposals and ensure complete paperwork for donor tracking.
• Manage a personal portfolio of top donors and prospects for the organization.
• Manage departmental expense budget.
• Serve as a critical partner to the Chief Advancement Officer for future campaign planning.
• Help Chief Advancement Officer to achieve success with MOCA’s annual gala, and lead the periodic Projects Council’s Women in the Arts fundraising event.
• Lead planned giving marketing program.
• Other duties as needed.

Requirements:

• Minimum 5-7 years of experience with all aspects of nonprofit individual giving activity, ideally within a museum or educational context.
• A supportive and strategic manager focused on helping employees succeed in their areas of departmental activity.
• An experienced and successful donor relations and major gifts portfolio fundraiser.
• A goal-oriented and metrics-driven leader.
• Ability to articulate the importance of the museum, the art and artists we present, and the community we serve.
• Experienced with proposal writing, showing excellent written communication skills.
• Organized and with the ability to discern priorities and big-picture thinking to steer the day-to-day demands.

Physical Demands:

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following: sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions; climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height. Specific visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to visually inspect work. Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other office equipment is required. Heavy usage of computers and phones required.

Salary Range: $120,000 – $140,000
