Craft In America Center Coordinator

The Craft in America Center seeks a part time Coordinator to help maintain and assist the small museum’s operations with a multitude of projects. Craft in America is a nonprofit organization (est. 2004) dedicated to the exploration, preservation, and celebration of the handmade and its impact on our nation’s cultural heritage. The Center is a museum and programmatic space located in the heart of Los Angeles. The Center generates rotating contemporary craft exhibitions (physical & virtual), research, lectures, education outreach, publications, and hands-on art workshops. Craft in America produces a Peabody Award-winning and on-going PBS documentary series.

The ideal Coordinator is articulate, friendly, versatile and organized. The Coordinator must have strong skills as an art writer and editor as well as abilities in graphics and design. The Coordinator must be a fluid, enthusiastic user of various social media platforms (YouTube, FB, IG, Twitter) and Wordpress. Key responsibilities include: assisting with exhibition planning and management, research, writing, correspondence, scheduling, registrarial work, design, and installation. The Coordinator will manage communications efforts and have a strong understanding of press, media and public outreach. The Center has a small team and the candidate must be hardworking, detail-oriented, excellent at multitasking, resourceful and flexible. Contemporary craft knowledge is a plus. 

An undergraduate degree in art history, museum studies, art education, studio art, or a related field is required. 

Regular tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Researching, writing and editing press releases
  • Developing press contacts to promote programming and content
  • Coordinating logistics, scheduling, and communicating with artists, lenders and scholars
  • Assisting with event planning and management 
  • Administering virtual meetings and webinars with the public
  • Visitor engagement 
  • Writing and posting social media and website content
  • Comfortable with different media (photo, video)
  • Assisting with exhibition logistics including loan agreements and shipping
  • Assisting with exhibition planning, installation and deinstallation 
  • Required skills: Wordpress, G Suite, Office Suite, Photoshop, InDesign

This is a part time, hybrid position that entails working at the Center some Saturdays, monthly

Involves intermittent local travel

Requires moving/lifting up to 40 lbs. of weight

Salary commensurate with experience, $18-25
