Security Representative

Description

The Security Representative is an active part of the operations during open hours and events at the ICA San Diego. This person supports ICA San Diego’s Mission by providing a safe space for staff and visitors to harbor a pleasurable and memorable experience. The Security Representative will also be trained to enhance the museum experience by inspiring visitors to engage and connect with the galleries and space
in meaningful ways. This position will be required to work primarily in the Balboa Park location. The Security Representative reports directly to the Visitor Experience Manager and will work closely with the Director of Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
● Provide a safe, welcoming, and informative first experience for visitors.
● Open and close gallery spaces, ensure the security of the artworks, equipment, and staff, assist VEs in setting up artwork.
● Direct visitors, callers, and vendors to appropriate staff members/departments.
● Walk the perimeter of the gallery, both inside and outside.
● Monitor security cameras.
● Ensure an efficient, safe, and quality guest experience for individuals and groups according to CDC government guidance including cleaning and disinfecting after each group.
● Keep updated about the most recent artist exhibitions, education programs, and general ICA San Diego programming.
● Attend the Balboa Park Safety and Security meetings.
● Assist the VE team with money handling and ensure safe deposits of cash.
● Assist with check-in during special events, education programs, facility rentals, and general museum activities, as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
● Must be able to execute policies and procedures while exercising decisiveness
● Ability to resolve visitor situations and problems
● Good customer service and communication skills
● Demonstrate ability to engage effectively with culturally diverse audiences
● Must be able to function as part of a team and enjoy working with the public
● Ability to learn about computer software used at the front desk.
● Must be able to work on evenings, weekends, and holidays
● Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
● 2-3 years security services experience
● Experience working in a museum, art gallery, nonprofit, or cultural setting a plus
● CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or ability to obtain through training
● Must be able to successfully attend and complete courses for a BSIS Security Guard Card and consistently maintain license in good standing
● Interest in the arts a plus

● Bilingual fluency, Spanish a plus

COMPENSATION
Position type: Part-time, 24 hours a week, non-exempt. Hourly rate is $17. A typical shift is 6 hours, Thursday-Sunday from 11:30am to 5:30pm, some weekends and evenings as needed. Benefits include nine paid holidays in a calendar year, staff appreciation days, discounts at select Balboa Park restaurants and shops, and free admission to member museums.
