What is the Valise Project?
The Valise Project is a staple of ICA San Diego’s educational offerings for our San Diego community. The program was inspired by famed modern artist Marcel Duchamp, who designed miniatures of his works and carried them in suitcases to share with others. ICA San Diego (formerly Lux Art Institute) adapted this concept by having contemporary artists create a suitcase and its contents in their distinct artistic style around a specific subject.
The Valise Project provides in-class visits to schools K-12 from across San Diego to learn about contemporary art. ICA San Diego provides students a complete art making experience from seeing, discussing, and touching the art to creating works of their own.
About the Proposal
ICA San Diego is inviting regional artists from San Diego and Tijuana to submit an art proposal to be our next Valise with a focus on themes surrounding Climate Equity.
Climate change is expected to disproportionately affect low-income communities, which are the least responsible for greenhouse gas emissions. Climate policies that are well-designed and implemented at the local, national, and international levels can play an important role in assisting communities and countries in strengthening their capabilities.
We are eager to learn about how you plan to bring your signature artistic practice to life in a hands-on experience that will enrich the lives of children for years to come!
