The Position
The City of Mountain View seeks an Executive Director/Performing Arts Manager for the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts (MVCPA) to succeed the Executive Director who retired in December of 2021.
The Center is part of the Performing Arts Division of the City’s Community Services Department, responsible for the management and operation of the MVCPA, a three-theater complex owned by the City.
The Executive Director is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the activities of the MVCPA, including booking, facilities operations and maintenance, personnel development and management, ticket services, technical and audience services; to coordinate performing arts activities with other divisions and departments and the community; and to provide highly complex staff assistance to the Community Services Director and/or the Assistant Community Services Director.
Required Professional Skills and Abilities
A bachelor’s degree in arts, arts management, or not for profit administration is required, with designation as a Certified Venue Professional from the International Association of Venue Managers is desired in addition to a minimum of five (5) years senior leadership experience of increasing responsibility in a performing arts facility that demonstrates the key knowledge, abilities and skills as outlined herein.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two (2) years personnel management experience, including responsibilities for staffing, evaluation, and performance management. Experience in a municipal setting and supervision of union employees is a plus.
The Performing Arts Manager will need a comprehensive knowledge of many performing arts forms and all aspects of arts venue management and will be an industry professional with existing networks within the cultural sector and a personal vision of how the arts and arts education play a role within the life of a community.
We are seeking a professional with a track record of excellent communication skills and positive relations with resident companies and community partners; an articulate champion for the arts with advanced oral and written communications skills with the ability to represent the MVCPA to a variety of audiences and in a myriad of settings.
Excellent analytical, writing, financial, and organizational skills are critical to the responsibilities of budget administration, policy development and implementation, oversight of contracts, and program management. The ability to build and maintain relationships with a broad range of stakeholders both inside and outside the organization and to enhance community understanding of the mission and vision of the MVCPA.
Compensation
The salary range is $124,325 to $186,487 with a control point of $155,406. Appointment beyond the midpoint may be considered depending on qualifications or experience. Salary growth after appointment is in accordance with a pay-for-performing plan and increases annually for meritorious performance.

Interview Process
Candidates with the most relevant qualifications will be invited to a virtual oral board interview. The most qualified candidates may be invited back for additional interviews with the Community Services Director and key members of the department. Depending on the number of applications, the above process may be altered.
