Communications Manager

SUMMARY

The person in this role will primarily report to the Director of Station Relations and Communications and will occasionally support the Senior Director of Engagement Operations; and will work to form a critical link between filmmakers and audiences by way of public media stations. Responsibilities include: working across functions, teams and external partners; engaging in communications on a variety of topics related to our documentaries such as film screenings, our mission and funding initiatives; producing events that promote our films and brands; tracking, researching and maintaining data within databases; and helping to create newsletters that keep audiences informed of all our offerings.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Communicate with television stations about ITVS documentaries, as well as virtual film screenings.
  • Co-produce newsletters, webinars, and national OVEE events.
  • Serve as a liaison with filmmakers to communicate and coordinate audience development strategies and timelines.
  • Develop and maintain partner databases.
  • integrate internal awareness of station priorities and out Online Viewing & Engagement Experience (OVEE) into all ITVS departments and initiatives.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for stations to integrate and promote ITVS content within stations’ initiatives.
  • Maintain catalog of upcoming ITVS films for PBS member stations.
  • Track broadcast and streaming data for Independent Lens films in Google Analytics and lead viewership-related research using Nielsen ratings; visualize trends and communicate results internally.
  • Manage research projects; track stations’ initiatives and collaborations, including digital and broadcast productions, film festivals, and themed events.
  • Working with the Senior Director of Engagement Operations, provide monthly platform metrics reports highlighting new and noteworthy insights and partner feedback to advance strategic goals
  • Manage onboarding process for new virtual screening partners, sales demos, contracting, invoicing, account set-up, coaching, and tech support.
  • Collect user experience feedback for product development, customer support solutions, and sales.
  • Maintain media for virtual screenings and demos on YouTube, Vimeo, and PBS Media Manager.
  • Draft newsletters that keeps partners and audience members informed about workshops, new platform improvements, and upcoming events.
  • Contribute to developing ITVS culture by proactively participating in institutional programs and staff events
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed

REQUIREMENTS

Required: Minimum of four years working at a media company, preferably in a communications, marketing, and/or outreach role.

Required: Minimum of four years developing and maintaining external client or partner relationships.

Required: Understanding of film, television, and/or new media, especially with regard to distribution, rights windowing, industry competition, storytelling and content marketability, and audience development.

Required: Intermediate technology proficiency (social media, account setups, chat software, watching and sharing online videos, webcasting software, etc.); proficient in Word, Excel, and the Google docs suite.

Required: Understanding of the marketing lifecycle, including campaigns, promotional assets, and platforms.

Required: Experience with data tracking and/or analysis.

Preferred: Passion for documentary film and a voracious appetite for all types of entertainment media.

Preferred: Proficiency with Google Analytics, Asana, Vimeo Pro, Photoshop, NetSuite, and/or MailChimp.

Preferred: Public media fandom.

COMPENSATION

 

This is an exempt position that offers a base salary of $65,000.00 with a robust benefits package.
