Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems of SCFTA buildings and facilities including electrical, mechanical, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and plumbing systems; performance of maintenance and safety functions at various SCFTA facilities; and work as assigned by the Director of Facilities or Senior Engineers. Each engineer is responsible for providing facilities support, on a rotating basis, for all events, performances, and activities in the venue during a weekly rotation.

Essential Functions:

Installs, maintains, and repairs facilities equipment to include low-pressure boilers, chillers, air handlers, fan coil units, humidifiers, water heaters, pumps, generators, compressors, steam lines, gas lines, and electrical systems.

Responsible for basic techniques in electrical (lighting fixtures, outlet wiring), HVAC (ductwork, control wiring), carpentry (door and seat hardware), and plumbing (clog clearing, faucet leaks) repairs as assigned by leadership.

Performs more difficult repair work such as minor modifications and maintenance, removing doors, replacing overhead tiles, repairing roof and leaks.

Operates and troubleshoots issues related to the Building Management System controls for the HVAC equipment.

Performs electrical maintenance work such as disconnecting, replacing and rerouting electrical systems, wall switches, and plug receptacles.

Plans, coordinates, and performs routine maintenance and safety functions at various SCFTA locations.

Identifies, diagnoses, and corrects facility operating system problems.

May perform minor braising and welding repairs involving a variety of metals.

Determines equipment and materials needs and makes purchases using organizational accounts or credit cards.

Tests and treats hot water heating and chilled water systems in heating and air conditioning units.

Drives automotive equipment in the performance of duties.

Ensures compliance with ADA, CAL-OSHA, and safety regulations.

Maintains a tracking log using designated computer applications.

Provides training and technical guidance to Engineers or other SCFTA staff, as required.
Communicates with professional, governmental, and civic business persons and organizations.

Provides courteous, high-quality service to members of the public by personally responding to requests for assistance or making appropriate referrals.

Ensure the optimum safety, quality, and performance from building maintenance contractors as they execute their contracts.

Responsible for ensuring the housekeeping contractor maintains the facilities clean and directs the cleaning staff on special projects or remedial cleaning.

Coordinates annual capital projects as assigned.

Reports and identifies areas of potential energy savings throughout all systems in all venues.

Inspects buildings and grounds daily to assure high standards of interior and exterior maintenance.

Helps monitor the operation of Patina Restaurant Group in Leatherby’s and the intermission bars.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of facilities maintenance principles and practices related to design, construction, and operation of various pumps, motors, buildings, facilities management, maintenance tracking system, HVAC, and plumbing systems.

Experience maintaining and repairing electrical and mechanical facilities operating systems.

Ability to identify, diagnose and correct facility operating system problems

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

Excellent communications and customer service skills

Primary computer and mathematical skills are a plus

Experience working in a multi-venue performing arts organization preferred

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical journals and specification sheets, procedures, or governmental regulations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS*:

Frequent use of hands to finger, handle, grasp, and feel

Ability to lift or move up to 45 pounds

Routinely stand, walk, and sit in the performance of duties

Requires good vision to include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus while maneuvering through light and dark spaces and stairways.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Regular exposure to outside weather conditions.

Routinely work around moving mechanical parts and near electrical current

The noise level in the office environment is usually quiet, temperature-controlled, and well-lit.

The noise level in event spaces may be loud at times.

Wear of uniform is required
