Idaho State-Civic Symphony

Pocatello, ID

—————————————————————

OVERVIEW

Idaho State-Civic Symphony Association (ISCS) is the independent 501(c)(3) governing body of the Idaho State-Civic Symphony (Symphony), a highly successful, decades-old collaboration with Idaho State University (ISU or University) in Pocatello, Idaho.

The Symphony is a unique 75- to 85-member orchestra recognized as both the leading performing arts organization in the region and a teaching ensemble for Idaho State University. It is comprised of ISU Department of Music faculty, ISU music performance students, and professional and community musicians. It presents an average of seven high-level professional concert performances annually to full-house audiences of every age and background. Additionally, the Symphony and a 50-member Youth Orchestra reach up to 5,000 students annually through community outreach programs.

Our mission is ”Making Magic and Changing Lives in our Spectacular Home.” We have taken that message to heart under the baton of Dr. Julie Sorensen, Artistic Director/Conductor, presenting a fully virtual 2020/2021 season with free online broadcasts during the COVID-19 epidemic. Our plans are to resume live concerts with in-house audiences, starting September 2021.

The “Spectacular Home” is Jensen Grand Concert Hall (seating 1200) in the magnificent Stephens Performing Arts Center. Located on the ISU campus, Stephens Performing Arts Center is rated fourth (4th) among the 25 Most Amazing University Performing Arts Centers in the United States by Best Value Schools in 2020.

The community of Pocatello-Chubbuck comprises some 70,000 residents, is located in Southeastern Idaho, and has a proud history of manufacturing, railroad, and agricultural economies known throughout the western United States. It is a hub for recreational and outdoor enthusiasts, boasting its own ski area and biking/hiking trails within minutes of the city. World-acclaimed resort towns, Sun Valley, Idaho, and Jackson, Wyoming, are scenic 2 ½ hour drives from Pocatello. At a similar distance is Salt Lake City Metro area.

Salary is commensurate with experience: $48,000 and up, with added negotiated benefits. This is a full-time position with the expectation of attendance outside of the normal working day at ISCS concerts and other Symphony events that may occur in the evenings and/or on a weekend.
