MashUp Contemporary Dance Company is seeking an Executive Director (ED). A strategic thinker and self-starter, the ED is responsible for the company’s programming, administration, brand strategy, operational, financial, and fundraising strategy. Collaborating closely with the company’s Artistic Leadership and Board of Directors, this individual will support MashUp’s five annual programs (International Women’s Day Festival, National Women’s Equality Day Event, Choreographic Residency Program, Workshops/Classes, and LA’s BEST After School Program), as well as any special projects or new initiatives. Specific responsibilities include:
Management
- Execute day-to-day company operations including email correspondence, grant writing, copywriting, financial reporting, and bookkeeping support. Set internal priorities, expectations, and deadlines. Serve as the driving force behind the administrative team.
- Liaise with the Board of Directors; cultivate new Members as needed; prepare required materials for quarterly Board meetings
- Supervise MashUp’s part-time Program Coordinator (PC), summer interns, administrative and production contractors; serve as point person for all personnel
- Conduct negotiation, drafting, and approval of contracts for creative collaborators, administrative personnel, other contractors, venues, and programming partners.
- Maintain organizational best practices to ensure sustainability and efficiency
- Network and advocate on behalf of MashUp within the local dance community and the broader Los Angeles area.
Financial Management & Fundraising
- Generate organizational and project-specific budgets in alignment with MashUp programming and overarching goals
- Track finances in real-time to ensure accuracy and fiscally responsible choices; manage cash-flow to ensure payroll needs are met and expenses are covered
- Oversee grant research and guide submission process with Program Coordinator (PC) to appropriate funding opportunities; compile creative input, written narratives, budget, and supplemental materials for submission, as well as complete mid-year & final reports
- Spearhead MashUp’s individual donor fundraising efforts; track donor data and increase year-round individual fundraising including annual drive fundraiser, expanding monthly donor group, and steward larger gifts
- Organize, plan, attend, and work upscale donor events with collaborative input from the Board of Directors and Creative Council
Programming
- Serve as the primary producer for all performances, events, festivals, and programs.
- Develop marketing language for projects, spearhead promotions, and oversee email/social media campaigns
- Set and manage each project budget in alignment with the company’s overarching financial goals
- Guide and contribute to the development of adjusted company programs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Collaborate with Artistic leadership to evaluate current programming, develop strategic partnerships, and expand MashUp’s visibility.
Brand Strategy
- Set overarching company tone, image, and brand style; generate updated style guide
- Contribute to project-specific copy, imagery, and marketing assets
- Set marketing calendar deadlines; oversee Program Coordinator’s promotional support, providing guidance and input as needed
- Expand MashUp’s press list, relations, and ongoing PR strategy
Overarching Expectations
- Act as a spokesperson for the organization’s mission
- Expand key partnerships with artists, sponsors, donors, granting organizations, partners, and community leaders
- Attend workshops and professional development opportunities on behalf of the company
- Maintain an organized office at the company’s home studio: Gilroy in Frogtown.
Schedule — MashUp intends for this role to start at 24 hours/week in late March 2021. The role will be expanded to full time by June 2021.
Salary — Compensation will commensurate with experience.
