Sixty-one organizations in California received funding through the Creating Public Value program from the California Arts Council, a grant program for organizations that work to provide a benefit to their communities through the arts. The Creating Public Value program recipients submitted proposals that addressed outcomes through the arts utilizing three tools identified as The Three Rs: Relationships, Relevance, and Return on Investment.
“The California Arts Council’s ‘Creating Public Value’ grantees contribute to the cultural aspects of their communities,” said Muriel Johnson, Director of the California Arts Council. “The program specifically requires applicants to show a sound proposal to benefit their local communities though the arts.”
Eligible recipients had to be either based in under-served communities and serve those communities, or based in rural areas and serve rural communities (county populations of up to 200,000). Other requirements included having budgets of up to $500,000, at least a half-time paid artistic or administrative staff member, and a continuous arts programming track record over the last four years. Most recipients received the maximum amount available of $10,000, based on the quality of applications and available matching funds. A list of recipients is below.
