The City of Milpitas invites qualified professional artists based in the Bay Area (Santa Clara County, plus Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Santa Cruz, San Francisco, San Mateo, Solano and Sonoma counties) to submit designs for a painted or mixed media mural for the Montague Pedestrian Overcrossing pedestrian entrance area, leading to the Milpitas Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station. Request for Proposals for Oceanside Landmark Sign
The Downtown Oceanside Property and Business Improvement District is requesting proposals for a landmark sign to be located in Downtown Oceanside at the intersection of Tremont Street and Pier View Way. The sign will act as a new landmark at the heart of the Sunset Market and create a place that locals and visitors are invited to enjoy for decades to come. This project is eligible to artists living and/or working in Southern California. The total budget for the commissioned artwork is up to $100,000, inclusive of design, engineering, production and installation.

Every summer since 2010, CURRENTS New Media has been putting on one of the leading art and technology festivals in the United States. Located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, CURRENTS brings together the work of established and emerging new media artists from the USA and around the world. In August 2020, we presented our first entirely-online festival with great success.
After a year of global change, adjustment and learning new ways to connect, we are planning an online festival with a smaller, onsite festival if COVID permits.

WRITING A NEW WORLD
Sunspot Literary Journal is dedicated to amplifying diverse multinational voices. We offer an Editor’s Prize of $50 for the annual edition. Artwork selected for a cover will be paid $20. Visit SunspotLit.com to download digital editions for free.
All types of prose from flash fiction and poetry to stories and essays, including scripts and screenplays, are welcome. We also accept long-form, novelette, and novella length works up to 49,000 words. Poetry can be up to 1,250 lines. Translations welcome.
One piece per prose submission. Use the correct form according to the length of your prose and poetry. Works longer than allowed by the form used will be declined unread.
Poets can submit one or two items using different forms.
Artists can submit one or two items using different forms.
The Fast Flux options offer a one-week turnaround for prose and art. Poets receive a two-week turnaround, with most responses being sent within one week.
All submissions must be unpublished (except on a personal blog). Simultaneous submissions welcome. Submit as many times as you like.
The journal only accepts submissions through the Submittable links.
Culmination: $500 for a Prose, Poem, or Art Ending
Authors & Artists Eligible
Endings carry a heavy weight. They must bring all the disparate elements of a poem, work of prose, or art series together while also proving an exit point that will smolder in the reader’s or viewer’s mind.
This year, Sunspot Lit is launching Culmination: $500 for a Prose, Poem, or Art Ending. No restrictions on theme, category, or the length of the piece from which the ending is excerpted. Word limit is 250 for prose, 25 words for poetry.
Graphic novel entries should be the last page with a maximum of 250 words; cut the number of panels to meet the word count, if necessary.
Visual art entries should be the last in a series, gallery lineup, or themed collection. Artists may use up to 250 words to describe the series, lineup or collection.
Titles are not included in the word count.

Prize: $500 cash, publication for the winner, publication offered to runners-up and finalists.
Sunspot asks for first rights only; all rights revert to the contributor after publication. Works, along with the creators’ bylines, are published in the next quarterly digital edition an average of one month after contest completion as well as the annual fall print edition.
Works should be unpublished except on a personal blog or website. Artists offered publication may display their pieces in galleries, festivals or shows throughout the publication contract period.
Enter as many times as you like through Submittable, but only one piece per submission. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please withdraw your piece if it is published elsewhere before the winner is selected.
