Summer Institute 2021 is a three day intensive virtual workshop series for teaching artists of all disciplines. The dates run July 22nd-24th. This year we will focus on art as activism or “artivism”. This past year, our students have experienced extreme societal upheaval and social injustices amidst a pandemic. We believe it is our job as teaching artists to help them navigate these events, their emotions, and their response to the world through art-making. During this three day intensive, teaching artists across the country will work with Teaching Artist Project staff to develop skills, lessons, and activities that will help support their students and bring activism through art into the classroom. Join us this summer to expand your ability to bring art and activism to the classroom, deepen your teaching with experiential, inquiry and reflection processes, connect with teaching artists from around the country, and build new strategies for creating a positive classroom culture.

PAST/ PRESENT/ FUTURE – INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION
IncuArts invites artists to submit work for Past/ Present/ Future– an exhibition exploring how time, experience, and history impact us.
Who writes history? Are we simply repeating ourselves? How does the past impact the present and future? Whose narrative is being told? What future are you fighting for? What is your story? Has your story been ignored by the collective mainstream?
Artists exploring ideas related to personal narrative, history, cultural issues, environmental issues, inclusion v exclusion, and social activism are encouraged to apply.
Women, BIPOC, LGBTQA+, and other community members who embody these experiences, and whose stories have been excluded from our cultural narrative are strongly encouraged to apply.
Artists of all media are encouraged to apply.
Each artwork will be considered based upon the merit of individual images submitted by each artist. Strict theme based entries are not necessary- the theme is a jumping off point, and meant to start a visual discussion.
A brief artist statement reflecting your ideas and how your identity is related to the exhibition theme is suggested.
Selected artists will have their work featured in the online exhibition and via social media platforms with individual write ups/ reviews.

In the modern age we have rediscovered a concept of Freedom increasingly linked to the right to redeem something obtained in exchange for something else. The medium of exchange is money, a bypass for freedom that allows us to satisfy our desires, vices and needs.
It is the same invisible structure within which we lead our existence to propose the windows of freedom, a selection of products and services that summon us to rooms of pleasure, where the dormant senses are stimulated and reactivated to rekindle with our emotions, the only residues of our human nature, that also make us alive.
The protagonists of the art world, as well as any author of any form of free expression, were the first to understand the need to live beyond these structures. This call is an invitation to propose works that testify to this rupture, where freedom is obtained without any exchange, where it is not a product and it is priceless.

SILK SCARF DYING CLASS
Morro Bay Art Association is pleased to present a ½ day workshop, “Dyeing Silk Scarves with Sharon Gellerman.
Sharon Gellerman is a local artist who creates one-of-a-kind, hand-marbled, silk scarves and silk tallits. Sharon has a fresh and modern interpretation of the classical art of marbling on fabric.
Through experimentation with color, technique and dye, she has refined her style and designs. Her sense of art has been greatly influenced by memories of Israel and her love of the California Coast. These elements are reflected in the intricate patterns and vibrant colors of her textile designs. These complex designs and skillful use of color make each scarf or tallit a unique and wearable piece of art.
During this workshop every student will dye their own unique scarf. Sharon will guide you through the process and techniques used to obtain beautiful patterns and colors within the silk scarf. All materials, tools, and supplies are provided for you.
