Ward Canyon Park Public Art Project

The City of San Diego is seeking applications from interested qualified artists to provide public art services for the Ward Canyon Park Public Art Project. An artist or artist team is sought to design, fabricate and transport permanent, site-specific artwork for the park improvements and consult during installation of artwork at the site by the City.
2025 Art That’s Small at City Hall

Eligibility: Entries will be accepted from residents of Orange County ages 18 or older. All entries must be original artworks created within the past two years and have not previously been exhibited at City Hall. Employees, Council members, Board members and Commissioners of the City of Laguna Beach are not eligible to apply.

Competition Description: “Art That’s Small at City Hall” is an open exhibition coordinated by the City of Laguna Beach Arts Commission. All works deemed acceptable will be exhibited at Laguna Beach City Hall, located at 505 Forest Avenue, from March 9 through April 18, 2025.
Entry Requirements: A fee of $15 will be charged with one entry allowed per artist. Cash or check payment accepted. Checks should be made payable to City of Laguna Beach. Artwork (including the frame) must be no larger than 12” along any edge, and 3” in depth. Artwork may include oil, acrylic, watercolor, photography, drawing, mixed media and relief. Artwork must be dry, in suitable display condition, and securely wired for hanging. The Cultural Arts Department, Arts Commission and appointed exhibition juror(s) retain the right to reject any submissions that do not fit the guidelines or spirit of the exhibition or that may be deemed inappropriate.
Timeline
Sunday, March 9, 2025 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Artwork, with applications attached, and entry fee must be delivered to the main entrance of City Hall, 505 Forest Avenue. Any work submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
Thursday, April 3, 2025 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Reception and awards ceremony held at Laguna Beach City Hall.
Friday, April 18, 2025 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (only) Exhibition closes. Artwork must be collected from Laguna Beach City Hall.

2025 Banner Competition

Description
The City of Laguna Beach Banner Competition is a project of the Arts Commission. Artists are provided with banner material on which to paint original artwork. The completed banners are displayed on lampposts throughout the city of Laguna Beach during June, July and August and celebrate the summer season. The completed banners are temporary and will be displayed when and where the City desires for up to 7 years or based on condition.
Application Presentation and Content
Application materials must be submitted via Slideroom. We encourage applicants to prepare materials before entering Slideroom to ensure ease of completion of all required documentation. Artists may submit ONE design as part of the following required materials:
• A color rendering at scale (4 x 16 inches)- Bright colors are suggested. Religious symbols are discouraged. The banner is painted on both sides; if your design is not a mirror image please submit the design for both front and back. Do not sign your submitted design. Designs should be hand drawn or painted.
• Artwork title and artist statement describing intent of design and/or theme
• Professional resume (maximum 2 pages)
• Proof of Orange County, CA residency
• 3 images of previous related artwork showing artists ability to complete large-scale work
