With support from the California Arts Council, SAN FRANCISCO OPERA GUILD will engage nearly 1200 students in an interactive bilingual opera, showcasing some of the best voices in the area in a close, intimate setting. Students will participate in the telling of the operatic tale, Lucinda y las Flores de la Nochebuena, and by helping the hero, young Lucinda, find her courage, voice, and strength, they will experience how music can help transform the human spirit and bring people together.
San Francisco Opera Guild provides a comprehensive menu of school and community education and engagement arts programs. We work with students k-12, providing seven programs in the schools: Sing a Story, Opera a la Carte (providing early exposure for first taste of opera and performance with artists), Book to Bravo and Voices for Social Justice (residencies in which students write and create their own pieces) Dress Rehearsals and Special Programs (a chance for students to watch professionals in high quality performance pieces), and Summer Conservatory (an intense training program for ages 10-18, learning opera and its component arts.) For community we offer Opera Scouts, a year round teen program, fostering singing and performance skills in an individual and ensemble setting, and our Preview lectures and Insight panels on specific operas, tailored for life-long learners.
