The California Arts Council announces that the application is now available for the 2009-10 Artists in Schools program. Artists in Schools is designed to support artists in residency activities that take place in schools, both in the classroom and in after-school settings. Final application and supplementary materials — including a California Cultural Data Project (California CDP) profile — are due on March 6, 2009.
“The California Arts Council is proud to support professional artists in the classroom through the Artists in Schools program,” said Muriel Johnson, Director of the California Arts Council. “The intent of the program is to provide California children access to professional artists and support schools’ implementation of the visual and performing arts curriculum content standards in music, theater, dance and the visual arts.”
The Artists in Schools program provides funding for the integration of community arts resources–artists and professional arts organizations–into a comprehensive, standards-based program that underscores the critical role that the arts play in shaping a student’s overall well being and academic achievement.
New This Year! The application for the 2009-10 Artists in Schools program is completely on line, and applicants are required to fill out a profile through the California Cultural Data Project and submit supplementary material along with the application. The California CDP is an online, statewide data collection effort for arts and culture designed to provide an easier application process for potential grantees through the development of a standardized form for organizational data that will accompany grant requests to the partnering funders.
Applicants will only need to complete the California CDP form once each year. Once the California CDP profile is complete, an arts organization can easily run a financial and/or data report as requested by each funder, instead of compiling individual reports for each grant application. Organization administrators can find the information for the California CDP at www.caculturaldata.org, as well as the number and hours of the help desk.
