Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, VOSS will implement Influencers 4 Change, an arts education and engagement program that will provide at-promise youth, with a focus on justice-involved youth and youth in foster care, the opportunity to engage with the arts and express themselves through audio engineering and videography.

Organization Summary

GAP’s core competency is engagement and leadership development for justice-involved youth. GAP’s services include gang prevention programming (Power in Change), gang awareness training, mentoring, life skills education (substance abuse, parenting, anger management), BULLETPROOF (which provides monthly activities that provide youth an opportunity to interact and engage with students, teachers, youth leaders, entrepreneurs, clergy, artists, and community members to build relationships and develop a culture of mutual respect and inclusivity). We also provide youth with opportunities to learn sound engineering, videography, and record their own music, and the Storytellers Set (provides youth with the opportunity to design their own presentations to address challenges faced by youth in the community and present at local schools). Additionally, we currently teach Life Skills classes in 9 Middle and High schools within Sacramento City Unified School District. GAP has staff with clearance to provide pre-release services within the County Youth Detention Facility (YDF), where GAP has provided their “Inside Out” program that provides pre-release and post-release services for the past 8 years.
